Defining Speech Privacy

Privacy is measurable: American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) 1130

The calculation and measurement of privacy is accomplished with the Privacy Index (PI). We could spend a lot words explaining it in technical terms but in a nut shell:

Imagine sitting in an office and reading 100 words at random out of the dictionary. Your partner is in the adjoining office listening carefully. If your partner understands only 5 words out of 100, you have reached a Privacy Index of 95%.

The matrix below provides some context for privacy in the workplace:

Most private offices only achieve Transitional Privacy
Most open offices have no privacy

It doesn’t have to be that way.  With a well designed Sound Masking System, we can help you achieve a Privacy Index of 80 in open plan.
